What can RIST do for you?

Come to see us at VidTrans 2022 to find out

Next month, the Reliable Internet Stream Transport (RIST) Forum is heading to VidTrans 2022 to demonstrate use cases for its interoperable protocol. The theme of this year’s event is ‘Content in Motion’. Alongside demonstrations, some RIST members will also be presenting in various technical sessions and case-study presentations exploring the technical benefits and upcoming developments for the protocol. After a virtual event last year, it’s great to see a physical event taking place this year. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone again in person.

Technical presentations

AlvaLinks will be presenting ‘Enhancing SRT with RIST protocol’. In this presentation, Adi Rozenberg will focus on how the use of the RIST protocol can enhance and improve some missing capabilities of the SRT protocol. Use cases will be presented where the coupling of RIST and SRT will provide some missing functionality. The presentation will also relate to the relevant use case being presented at the Vidtrans Demo.

Cobalt Digital will be delivering a presentation on ‘RIST Relay Overview’. Ciro Noronha, Ph.D. will provide an overview of the RIST Relay functionality and protocols, including the support for symmetric and asymmetric firewalls, traffic replication, and protocol conversion, among other functions.

Open Broadcast Systems will be presenting on the topic ‘5G for Onboard Racing Car Video’ and will look at real world tests of onboard video now that well-known race tracks in Europe have 5G coverage. Traditionally onboard racing car video has been delivered using low-latency RF links that are only affordable by the highest-end motor racing leagues. But there is still high demand for onboard video from both broadcasters and arguably more importantly the racing teams themselves to improve race performance. The lower latencies in 5G mean comparable latencies to RF can be achieved.

SipRadius will be discussing ‘Cloud Production, Transport and Monitoring via libRIST plus WebRTC’. Sergio Ammirata’s presentation aims to explain how libRIST is used by SipRadius for error corrected transport of a large number of streams. He will also explain how SipRadius has implemented secure browser viewing using WebRTC.

RIST in action: Interop Demo

As well as the individual presentations, there will also be an interop demo showing RIST in action. In this demonstration, streams are being transported over the internet to the show floor, using a variety of links and ISPs.  For each transmission, there is a different vendor on the sending and receiving sides.  All devices in the demonstration are using RIST Main Profile (VSF TR-06-2), with receiver connections originating in the show floor. CBS has made available the signals from three live cameras in New York City, as well as internet connectivity.  Three different vendors (Cobalt, Evertz and SipRadius) have provided on-site encoders to transport these live signals to VidTrans 2022.  Nevion, Net Insight, and Zixi are also participating in the demo.

RIST Roundup: Panel discussion

A panel discussion will take place on ‘RIST Roundup: Evolving Technologies and Expanding Applications’, focusing on recent technical developments and innovative market applications RIST (Reliable Internet Stream Transport). End users and technology suppliers will be on hand to discuss how the technology has been evolving to add important new features and the many new applications that are now possible with RIST.

VidTrans 2022, the Video Services Forum’s annual conference and exposition, returns to Marina del Ray, California from June 14th – 16th. We hope to see you there. Free exhibits-only passes are available.
