RIST Products and Presentations Represented at NAB

21st April 2022 - The Reliable Internet Stream Transport (RIST) Forum has announced that a number of its members will be showcasing RIST-enabled products at the NAB Show from 24th – 27th April 2022. RIST will also be explored in the IP Showcase.

Members present at NAB include Amagi (W4706), Ateme (W3512), Cobalt (N3713) Cerberus, DTV (W9211), Elecard  (W5216), Evertz (N5907), Grass Valley (C2107), Haivision (W5205), Intinor (W951), M2A Media (W8903), Net Insight (W4922), Open Broadcast Systems (N2332), Sencore (W7000), Stream Station (W6124), VideoFlow (W8616), Zayo (W8513), Zixi (Encore Hotel).

Members will be demonstrating a range of products with support for RIST.

Ateme will showcase most of its products for contribution and primary distribution including its Titan Encoder, Decoder, and Gateway, and Kyrion Encoder and Decoder. RIST is part of Ateme’s interface tools, enabling access to the cloud quickly and securely.

Cobalt’s compressions lines, the 9223 Encoder9990 Decoder, 9992- Encoder and 9992 Decoder series, support RIST Simple Profile and Main Profile implementations and Cobalt’s Safelink Gateway supports RIST Simple Profile. Cobalt will have a Multi-Link RIST Demo featuring SMPTE ST 2022-7 Seamless Redundancy Switch coupled with RIST at its booth (N3713). This approach enables users to have two independent links from different providers with a RIST packet on top, to ensure maximum reliability and glitch-free switching.

DTVI will demonstrate its OX-1 transport stream converter that can support up to 8 distinct streams and 160 mbps total bandwidth. Among other formats, it supports RIST Simple and Main Profile. DTVI will showcase the latest version of OX-1, which includes the ability to do edge video transcoding.

Elecard will be showing its live encoder-packetizer, CodecWorks, which supports the RIST protocol. Elecard MPEG-2, H.264/AVC, HEVC live encoders and MPEG-DASH/HLS/RIST packetizes are in production with Tier 1/2/3 broadcasters, IPTV and OTT operators. VVC, HEVC, AV1, VP9, MPEG-2 and H.264/AVC video analyzers, monitoring probes, encoders and playback software enable system architects, SoC designers, and QA to shorten development cycles and improve time to market.

Evertz will showcase a range of RIST supported and enabled solutions at NAB Show. Among the products will be its XPS Live 4K/UHD/3G/HD Video Encoder & Decoder Series and MMA10G-TRXS-5G real-time video streaming platforms SCORPION Smart Media Processing Platform for diverse signal routing, conversion and streaming; DreamCatcher™ BRAVO Studio Virtualized Production Suite that provides traditional control room elements in a web-based platform; the Reflektor Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) IP distribution platform.

The Intinor booth will feature a demonstration of its Direkt series, which enables low-latency delivery of contribution links. The latest “ultra-low latency” feature for Intinor’s Direkt series delivers less than half a second end-to-end for complex contribution links. Intinor will be showing how it supports multiple open-source transport protocols including RIST.

M2A Media will be showcasing M2A CONNECT, a simple to use, feature rich product for scalable video aggregation and distribution of live video streams in AWS Cloud. M2A CONNECT supports RIST for greater reliability, speed, ease of deployment and its interoperability within the industry.

Net Insight will showcase a live demo of its cloud-based Nimbra Edge platform for media contribution, production and primary distribution, supporting all open broadcast standards. It utilizes RIST Main Profile protocol for services across multi-cloud and unmanaged internet.

Open Broadcast Systems will be presenting its range of encoders and decoders that all include support for RIST. This includes its C-100 Encoders and Decoders, which support high-quality, low-latency news, sport and channel contribution, as well as its high-density C-200 Encoders and Decoders. The company will also demonstrate its small form-factor C-100 encoders, which were recently used to transmit the onboard racing car video over 5G from cars travelling at 120mph (200 km/h).

Sencore will be demonstrating its DMG 7000 internet distribution gateway with full support for RIST simple and main profile. As well as supporting the latest RIST features such as link bonding and seamless switching, the DMG 7000 includes an install package for COTS, VM and cloud environments.

Zixi will be hosting meetings and demonstrations of its Software Defined Video Platform (SDVP) at the Encore Hotel. The Zixi SDVP is the tight integration of four components that enable broadcast-quality live video workflows to be intelligently and centrally provisioned, deployed, managed and monitored using software and integrated devices, regardless of the underlying network infrastructure.

The IP Showcase will feature three RIST-focused presentations, all taking place on 25th April.

  • Sergio Ammirata, Chief Scientist, SipRadius, will discuss libRIST error correcting transport, introducing libRIST, a popular FOSS implementation of RIST.

  • Adi Rozenberg of Video-Flow will present a new and exciting feature that will be part of the RIST TR-06-04 specification – source adaption. Source adaptation is a set of messages between the receiver and sender to provide valuable information with emphasis on link (or multi-link) metrics. The presentation will highlight how this can be used to adapt the use of the available links between sender and receiver and adapt the stream over each link or the source itself.

  • This will be followed by an introduction to the RIST Advanced Profile by Ciro A. Noronha of Cobalt Digital and RIST President. RIST Advanced Profile includes features such as a tunnelling mode for legacy protocols, as well as new additional security features.

RIST is a technical recommendation from the Video Services Forum (VSF). VSF recommendations can be found here.

RIST spokespeople will also be available throughout the event. To schedule a meeting please email suzana@rist.tv
